Spirulina does not belong to the group of products that it loves from the outset. It has a scent to which you need to get used and a rather specific taste. But it is such a valuable source of easily absorbed vitamins, minerals and proteins that you might want to give her a chance to permanently introduce to diet, and occasionally invite to a bathroom.
Spirulina in the natural environment
Spirulina is a blue-green micro algae, considered one of the oldest forms of life on Earth. It has a spiral shape (hence its name) and inhabits the areas of clean, warm lakes, rivers, springs and water reservoirs. For living needs good sunlight and optimum temperature, no fertilisers or plant products need to be used. The truth is that today the vast surface of the water on Earth is polluted, so if you want to keep the “purity” of the Spirulina, you also started to breed in special tanks, including Hawaii. Naturally occurring spirulina can be found in the waters of Taiwan, India, China and Japan, South America (Mexico), Africa (Chad’s region) and the aforementioned Hawaii. Currently it is the most tested (next to Chlorella) alga.
Spirulina composition – not only protein, vitamins and chlorophyll
Spirulina is counted as a bunch of superfoods (Polish name is Superżywność). It is considered to be one of the most valuable sources of easily absorbed proteins (contains as many as 8 exogenous amino acids and 10 endogenous amino acids, and the protein that is found in it is absorbed in 85-95%!), a valuable source of GLA (gamma-linolenic acid), Chlorophyll, fitocyjaniny, rope acid and arachidonic acid, B-group vitamins, iron, beta-carotene, phosphorus and calcium, vitamins A, C, D, K and E.
The composition of Spirulina makes it one of the best natural dietary supplements. Sea Spirulina should also avoid people with allergies to seafood and seaweed. For them a safer choice is spirulina species.
Although supplementation and consumption of Spirulina do not cause side effects, its consumption is not recommended for individuals with autoimmune diseases and chorującym on phenylketonuria.
